Malta Driving Through Time: Nissan's 90-Year Legacy of Innovation and Excitement

2023 marks an important Milestone for Nissan, as the world-renowned car manufacturer celebrates 90 years of passion and innovation driven by their DNA to “do what others don’t dare to do”.
Since its founding of Nissan Motor Co. on December 26th 1933, this daring spirit has inspired Nissan and generations of its employees to push the boundaries of innovation - enriching people’s lives with thrilling journeys and pioneering technology to create a cleaner, safer and more inclusive world.
Here are some of Nissan’s unforgettable moments over the years:
Introduction of the Datsun Brand (1930s-1980s)
Before becoming Nissan, the company was known as Datsun. In the 1930s, Datsun started exporting vehicles to Europe, making it one of the first Japanese automakers to establish a presence in the European market.
GT-R Series (1969 - present)
The iconic Nissan GT-R series began with the release of the Skyline GT-R in 1969. The GT-R series has since become known for its high-performance sports cars.
Nissan's Electric Vehicle Leadership (2010s)
Nissan became a pioneer in the electric vehicle market with the launch of the World’s first mass-produced, affordable electric car, the Nissan LEAF in 2010. The LEAF quickly became Europe's best-selling electric car, representing a major step forward in the automotive industry's transition toward electric mobility. In January 2021, Nissan announced that global sales of the LEAF had surpassed one million units, marking a significant milestone for the world's best-selling electric car at that time.
Nissan's Crossover Success (2000s-2010s)
Nissan's proudly pioneered the original Crossover, introducing legendary models such the Nissan Qashqai and Juke. The Qashqai and Juke were one of a kind and dominated the European Market for over a decade.
Nissan in E Formula
Nissan entered the all-electric Formula E championship during the 2018-2019 season, with the goal of showcasing the brands capabilities in a competitive racing environment and as well as serve as a platform for Nissan to promote its innovative electric technology.
Nissan Ariya (2023)
The Nissan Ariya, an all-electric crossover SUV, was unveiled in 2020, showcasing Nissan's commitment to the future of electric mobility and has started to roll out onto the European market.
